Step Back In Time June 1st and 2nd
The Village of Lexington is hosting an American Civil War Weekend on Saturday, June 1st, and Sunday, June 2nd. The event is free to the public. Members of the 15th Michigan Volunteer Infantry, a South-East Michigan living history organization, will demonstrate how soldiers of the Union Army camped, cooked, dressed, drilled, and fought. Wooden musket and Union Army kepis, the cap soldiers wore, will be available for any children who care to participate in marching or learn military drill.
Author and Lecturer Mike Ruffini, longtime resident of Lexington, will be signing his new civil war novel, Road to Fredericksburg as well as lecturing on the weapons used in America from the French and Indian War through the Civil War. All members of the Fifteenth Michigan are more than happy to answer questions, explain the tools, uniforms, and weapons of the period, and discuss the battles and issues of the times.
The event starts at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, and 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Several members of the 15th MI. will be staying in their camp Saturday night, and will welcome anyone who stops by to say hello. The event ends at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. So stop by, enjoy the quaint Village of Lexington with its unique shops and restaurants, and learn a little about our history too. See you there!
